He was the victim of the theft of a quantity of iron for which Samuel Gibbs was acquitted at the Dorset Midsummer Sessions in late June in 1848. At the Dorset Midsummer Sessions Samuel Gibbs was acquitted of stealing iron from him. He was a blacksmith between 1851 and 1854. Thirteen year-old Job Seal was sentenced to one month hard labour and four years at a reformatory school for obtoining 3s from David by false pretences by the Dorset Quarter Sessions. He was the victim of the apparent theft of 1s 3d by Francis Warry, smith, who having received 1s for shoeing a horse and 3d for repairing a mattock pocketed the money rather than hand it over to his foreman. Warry was found not guilty. He was a member of Beaminster Friendly Society on 9 June 1865. He attended the Stoke Abbott Friendly Society festival day on 11 May 1866. He supplied 'finest quality timber' to the Beaminster surveyor Mr Tomlinson to enable David Macey of Stoke Abbott and Mr Munden the mechanic at Cleatham Mill to re-hang the bells of St Mary the Virgin Church, Netherbury which were officially 'opened' on 6 November 1868. On 20 Sep 1869 he accomodated the annual Beaminster Fair un one of his fields. This field may have been part of Whitcombe Farm, previously occupied by his brother Henry. He was a master carpenter and builder employing 6 men and 2 apprentices) on 2 April 1871. As of 2 April 1871, David Hann lived at East Street (14), Beaminster, Dorset. He qualified to be a juror by virtue of his status as copyholder of his builders business for which he was assessed for poor rate and inhabited house rate between 1872 and 1875 at Prout Bridge, Beaminster, Dorset. David Hann and Arthur Hann were involved in a court case on 12 April 1872 at the County Couurt where David claimed £3 5s 3d owed by Arthur for the rent of his cottage. Arthur contested the claim onn the basis that it had been agreed that he could live rebnt-free in exchange for cultivating 28 acres of David's flax. Dacid won the case. He was reponsible, with partner George Gale, for the demolition of the old Beaminster Workhouse and the construction of between August 1874 and October 1875 at East Street - Boys' Elementary School, Beaminster, Dorset. At a dinner on 28 January 1885 Superintendet FW MacHale of the Beaminster Police said that he had known David's son since infancy and thet 'their father he had been the means of bringing fro Stoke Abbott to this town, and who he had known to be an upright, honest and good tradesman.'

The letter read as follows on 30 August 1878. As of 3 April 1881, Mary Ann Hann lived at South Street (now Prout Bridge) (154 - possibly 24), Beaminster, Dorset. She died on 23 March 1891 at Prout Bridge, Beaminster, Dorset; She was found at the foot of the stairs leading to the upper part of the house. Having suffered from heart disease for a year or two and broken her leg falling downstairs following a previous attack, it is believed the strain of climbing the stairs proved too much for her. She was buried on 26 March 1891 at St Mary's Church, Stoke Abbott, Dorset.

Mr Martin sued Henry for 18s 3d for breach of contract regarding the purchase a firkin of butter. Henry bought the butter at 10¾d per pound but re-sold it at a reduced price before he had paid Martin, thereby owing the outstanding money. However Henry contended that the butter was unfit for use and contrary to its description, it allegedly having been returned to Martin as bad two years previously. The allegation being corroborated, the judge found in Henry's favour will full costs. At the 30 August 1856 Crewkerne County Court Henry was sued by two Osborne cousins from Merriott. Job sued for £7 13s 9d in a case regarding a quantity of seed wheat and apples which he had sold to Henry on 10 November each man leaving 2s 6d at the Nag's Head as surety. Henry collected the apples on the Saturday as agreed but did not have sufficient horses to take away the wheat as well. He maintained that the agreed date only referred to the apples and the wheat should await his convenience. Henry Osborne sued him for £1 5s being the amount owed on some potatoes that Henry had bought, Henry pleaded an off-set against some hurdles which he had sent to Henry Osborne but although Osborne agreed that they had been delivered were so inferior he had refused to accept them and he had not received any replacements. The Court found for the Osbornes in both cases. He qualified to vote as occupier of land and voted for Portman in 1857. He was treated at Beaminster Union Infirmary for an abscess on 3 March 1859. Property held by them £484, estimate surplus £133 13s 8d, liabilities on bills discounted £12 19s giving a total for debts and liabilities of £499 10s 6d, debtors good £37 17s 7d, doubtful debtors £39 11s 7d, bad debtors £5 10s 3d, property given up - furniture £30, stock in trade nil, utensils £25, surplus £133 13s 8d, total assets £261 13s 3d. Deficiencies £237 17s 3d, expenditure for support of his family for the year preceding bankruptcy and the previous year £130 for each but it was believed that several of the debtor and creditor incorrect or not supported according to the report in the Poole & South-Western Herald. At the adjourned bankruptcy examination on 21 June it was stated that the bill from J G Hann (his nephew) was for accommodation and that the bank held his house valued at £370 against the £300 he owed them. His indebtedness appeared to result from debts contracted with Mr Macey and Mr Symmons that he would not have been able to repay. He was a hairdresser on 2 April 1871. As of 2 April 1871, William Hann lived at Hendford (51), Yeovil, Somerset. He and his wife were involved in a court case (PRO ref: C16/950/M57) against Robert Miles, Samuel Miles, Ann Miles (spinster) and Felix and Mary Curtis regarding the estate of Ellen Morgan (widow) late of 148 Kings Road, Brighton in 1874. He wrote to Yeovil Corporation asking for planning permission to rebuild his premises, which was rejected as the bay windows on the first floor overhung the footpath, on 2 February 1874. He was rebuilding his property near Chough's Hotel and had to give up a strip of land that he valued at £30. As the land had not yet been acquired by the Town Council it was decided that considerin compensation would be premature according to the Western Gazette on 17 April 1874. By mid-June 1874 his old premises had been demolished and two new dwelling houses and shops were to be erceted by Mr JK Chant to plans by Mr Bennett of Weymouith. He had six rabbits and a pheasant (value 10/-) stolen from his shop for which Thomas Leach (12) and James Hann (15) were sentenced to 12 strokes of the rod for stealing and William Eliis (23) three months imprisonment for receiving stolen goods, in March 1877 on 4 January 1877. He was probably the Mr Hann, fishmonger, whose trap was in collision on 21 September 1877 with a carriage belonging to Mr Brutton whose horse had bolted. The carriage then collided with a bread cart and turned over. The boy driving the carriage was uninjured but a wheel came off the carriage and its shafts broken. There was little damage to either of the other vehicles. He was a hairdresser and fishmonger on 3 April 1881. As of between 3 April 1881 and 20 March 1893, William Hann lived at Hendford 4, Yeovil, Somerset. He was probably the William Hann of Yeovil, agent for the Perpetual Friendly Society who was summonsed in September 1887 for stopping weekly payments to Joseph Ridout. Ridout had been a member for 35 years and received 5s a week for 20 months when payment was stopped. The society deemed that collecting the rent due on his properties was 'work' so stopped his payments but the magistrates determined that it was an effort by younger members of the society to avoid the 'difficulty' of older members and ordered the re-isnatement of payments. He left a will on 21 December 1889. He was a perfume and music seller on 5 April 1891. He died on 20 March 1893 at Hendford 4 'Regent House', Yeovil, Somerset, at age 74; following 7 days of cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) caused by prostate disease. He was a hairdresser on 20 March 1893. He His death was registered by Kate Miles Gutch, daughter on 22 March 1893. He was buried on 25 March 1893 at Holy Trinity Church, Yeovil, Somerset. His estate was probated on 28 April 1893; granted to James Exell (tailor) and Elizabeth Alice Hann (spinster), daughter. Estate value - £328.2s.10d.

She was the servant to her second cousin, Henry Hann (innkeeper amd farmer of 49 acres employing 6 labourers) his wife, Mary, and family on 30 March 1851. As of 7 April 1861, Charlotte Hann lived at South Street (72), Crewkerne, Somerset. She was the housemaid to Elizabeth P Genge (school mistress) on 7 April 1861. She married Henry Smith on 17 June 1877 at St Silas's Church, Bedminster, Bristol. As of 3 April 1881, Charlotte Smith lived at Tyler Street 7, Barton Hill and Moorfields, Bristol. She was confirmed on 22 August 1863 at St Mary of the Annunciation Church, Beaminster, Dorset; was described as aged 24; living at Clampits. After her confirmation Maria disappears. I have been unable to trace any marriage, death, emigration or census records for her. By 1871 her son Thomas was living with his grandparents.
