On 3 September 1894 John Brown appeared in County Police Court. The prosecution was brought by the NSPCC. It was alleged that Brown had given her 1d and then taken her into a field called Watergate and assaulted her. Percy Hunter (4) gave evidence that he saw them go into the field where he and Valentine Albert Newton then saw them lying on the ground. Frances Hunter (12) said that Brown had earlier offered her 1d to kiss him which she declined as she did when he increased his offer to 2d. As there was only the children's evidence, and no corroborative medical evidence to support it, the Bench dismissed the case.      A number of people have attributed this Thomas to the one born in Stourton Caundle in 1746, however I have not found anything to substantiate this and my understanding is that that Thomas was the one buried in Stourton Caundle in 1772. The Bridport Thomas is more likely to be another of the Dalwood Hanns. Thomas Hann was christened on 1 March 1747 at Sidbury - Ss Giles and Peter Church, Sidbury and Sidford, Devon. He was the son of John Hann and Ann Welsman. Thomas Hann married Mary Rendall on 13 November 1772 at South Street - St Mary's Church, Bridport, Dorset; the witnesses were Ann Smith and John Humber. As of between 17 April 1776 and 1 April 1778, Thomas Hann lived at Eype, Symondsbury, Dorset. Property he leased in Bridport from Benjamin Follett was assessed for Land Tax at 8s 8d. As of 26 March 1785, Thomas Hann lived at Symondsbury, Dorset. He was a cordwainer on 26 March 1785. He took on William Tett as an apprentice on 26 March 1785.
