In 1841 a '60' year old Stephen Backaller (ag lab) was living at Brown's Cross in Wootton Fitzpaine with a '55' year old Mary Pope (independent) and in 1851 still in Wootton Fitzpaine at Pepper Corn House were 75 year old Stephen Backaller (pauper) and 68 year old Mary Pope (pauper charwoman.)
