As of 30 March 1851, Sarah Wakely lived at The Village (37), Misterton, Somerset. A report appeared in the 10 Jul 1860 edition of the Sherborne Mercury regarding a removal haring where Misterton parish sought removal of Sarah Wakely to Broadwindsor. AT this it was stated that she and William Wakely were never married and thatwhen an order was made in Dec 1847 she was not removed . She was believed to have born in North Perrott, where her parents lived, about 70 years ago and at 13 year old had gone into service. When she was 17 she went to be a servant for Thomas Wakely (farmer) of Mosterton. There she met William Wakely and developed a relationship in which they lived together as man and wife before the went to live in Bath around 1827-1828 and were married. She did not know the name of the church or the celebrant but after the marriage she return to their lodgings, Willimam who had stayed behind with the 'vicar,' returning with a piece of paer for which he had paid 3s. This paper had been destroyed by some children when they lived in Misterton. eaving Bath they lived at the turnpike gate at Norton, SOmerset where their son Abraham was christened by the vicar. They then moved around as William worked as a farm carter and in 1847 went to live in Misterton where William cliamed parish relief on account of his illness. On 29 Dec 1847 a removal hearing was heard at Ilminster and William and his wife ordered to be removed from Misterton to Broadwindsor. Wlliam was removed in June 1848 to the Beaminster Union workhouse but Sarah was too ill to be removed to the workhouse. Sarah stated that William came back to Misteron afetr one night and that Broadwindsor had paid them relief until about two years before William died. Relief had stopped because he had received 7s a week under his brotther's will. Broadwindsor contested the removal as they did not believe that there had been a marriage, their attorney not having found one in any of the Bath records. Misterton however contended that as Broadwindsor had paid releief from Oct 1848 to Lady Day 1856 it couldn't now turn round and say that the 1847 documentation was incorrect. The order for removal was confrimed. As of 7 April 1861, Sarah Wakely lived at The Village (59), Mosterton, Dorset; was visiting her son William and his family. As of 2 April 1871, Sarah Wakely lived at The Village (65), Mosterton, Dorset. She died in December 1874 at Mosterton, Dorset, at age 82; her surname was registered as Wakley.
