According to a report in the 4 Jun 1926 edition of the Western Gazette he was involved in an accident at Four Ashes for which Frederick Bartlett (baker's assistant) of Beaminster was charged with driving a motor-carto the public danger. He had been travelling from Boroadwindsor to Bridport when Mr Bartlett (driving a van for Moores' baker's of Stoke Abbott as he had done for eleven years) went across the crossroads in front of him and almost managed to clear the junction. The car hit the back of the van which was knocked over sustaining damage to three wheels, its footboard and wing and glass for the right-hand side, where Bartlett's head had passed through it. At the time precedence to traffic on the main road was not the law. Mr Lenthall was allegedly travelling at 20 mph and Mr Bartlett at 10-12 mph. The car was alleged to have been on the wrong side of the road, but the van was driven through the junction hoping the car would pass behind it. It was sid that at the time Mr Lenthall did not want to involve the police and Bartlett did not contact the police either. It was decided that poor judgmnt was shown by both drivers, but mainly, Bartlett, but as neither was really to blame the case was dismissed. John Kiddle Lenthall died in September 1949 at Bridport R D, Dorset.
