He was required to clean up a quantity of bones lying around on his premises and to stop feeding his pigs offal by the Health Inspector in November 1941. He was charged at Sale Police Court with using sulphur dioxide as a meat preservative but as he had not been active in the business due to ill health this was done by his employees. A fine of £3 with £2 12s 9d costs was imposed - according to a report published in the Gippsland Times on 24 December 1947. He departed from London aboard SS Mooltan bound for Melbourne, Victorias having stayed at Knowle House, Misterton on 26 August 1948. As of 19 March 1949, John George Wakely lived at Sale - Desailly Street 59, Wellington, Victoria. A report of death of John George Wakely from the Gippsland Times of 21 Mar 1949 it appears that he had been caught on a barbed wire fence whilst carrying his shotgun when looking out for dogs worrying his sheep. He had then fallen discharging both barrels. The shot travelled up through his body to the right shoulder and right side of his neck.
