He was 5'4.75" with light brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion and an anchor tattoo on his left arm on 24 January 1898. He was promoted to Able Bodied Seaman on 15 June 1899. As of 31 March 1901, Edward George Kennell lived at Sydney Harbour - HMS Royal Arthur, Greater Sydney, Sydney, New South Wales; The ship being the Royl Navy Australia station flagship was escorting the future King George V and Queen Mary (abord the Royal yacht Ophir) to open the new Commonwealth Parliament at Melbourne on 9 May. He began military service on 4 January 1913 as M5560 - Boy Articifer, Royal Navy at HMS Fisgard (the former HMS Audacious) the training base at Woolwich in London. On signing on for a further 12 years he was said to be 5'8.5" tall with a 33" chest, light brown hair, grey eyes and fresh complexion wityh a mole on his abdomen. He reported to HM Naval Base Portsmouth HMS Victory II to await a ship as an Engine Room Articifer (5th Class) on 1 January 1917. He was posted to HMS Hercules a Colossus class battleship on 29 January 1917. He was promoted to Acting Engine Room Articifer (4th Class) on 1 November 1917. He returned to HMS Victory on 1 April 1918. He was posted to HMS Dido (the former Eclipse class cruiser) depot ship for service with HMS Bruce (F48) the newly completed Scott class destoyer flotilla leader at Rosyth that was awaitng commissioning on 24 April 1918. His promotion to Engine Room Articifer (4th Class) was confirmed. He was still aboard HMS Bruce but allocated to depot ship HMS Hecla the former SS British Crown supporting the Second Destroyer Flotilla in northern Ireland on 1 March 1919. He whilst still aboard HMS Bruce was re-allocated again to HMS Diligence the former SS Tabaristan then used as a destroyer depot ship on 25 April 1919. He returned to HMS Victory II for new posting on 7 May 1919. He served aboard HMS Honeysuckle the Acacia class sloop between 13 June 1919 and 26 November 1919 at HMS Egmont, Forti Sant' Anglu (Fort San Angelo), Birgu. He returned to HMS Victory 2 on 27 November 1919. He was posted for service with HMS Vivacious (D36) the V class destroyer based at the torpedo boat destroyer depot on 16 May 1920 at HMS Columbine, Port Edgar, West Lothian (Lodainn an Iar). He was promoted to Engine Room Articifer (3rd Class) on 1 November 1920. He transferred to Vivacious's sister ship HMS Vancouver on 1 July 1921. He returned to HMS Fisgard (by now the former HMS Spartiate) on 3 May 1923. He was promoted to Acting Engine Room Articifer (2nd Class) on 1 November 1924. He married Lillian Gertrude Waight in June 1925 at Fareham R D, Hampshire. Frederick Cyril Kennell was transferred to HMS Effingham (D98) the Hawkins class heavy cruiser which was flag ship of the Far Eastern Fleet for service at Matara wireless station in Sri Lanka on 24 April 1926. He was promoted to Warrant Engineer on 1 January 1927. Between 1931 and 1934 he was shown in the Navy List as a Portsmouth-based Warrant Engineer. He was shown as a retired Warrant Engineer in the Navy List in 1935. He died on 16 August 1936 at Pear Tree Gardens 'Stonor', Bitterne, Southampton, at age 38. His estate was probated on 4 November 1936; granted to Lilian Gertrude Kennell, widow. Estate value £868 7s 10d.
