He transferred to the Dover Patrol shore establishment HMS Attentive II service aboard HMS Crane with Seventh Destroyer Flotilla on 1 January 1914. He married Florence Annie Ayriss on 13 April 1914 at Ss Peter and Paul Church, Grays Thurrock, Thurrock. William Harold Sellar was promoted to acting Leading Stoker on 3 February 1915.
