STOKE ABBOTT, DORSET,
TO CARPENTERS, BUILDERS, WHEELWRIGHTS,
AND OTHERS
TO BE SOLD by AUCTION, by MR. SAMUEL COX,
at the New Inn, Stoke Abbott, on Monday, the
24th day of August, 1891, at Four for Five o'clock p.m.,
precisely, subject to conditions to be then produced, and in
the following or other lots to be then determined on, the
undermentioned FREEHOLD DWELLING-HOUSS,
WORKSHOPS, GARDENS, ORCHARD and
PREMISES, viz. :-
LOT 1. - The DWELLING-HOUSE, Carpenter's Shops,
Yard, Garden, and Productive Orchard, containing
together about three acres, situate in the village
of Stoke Abbott, and in the occupation of Mr John
H. Hann, Builder, &c., together also with the adjoin-
ing cottage occupied by Mrs. Mary Wakely.
LOT 2. - THE COTTAGE, Cellar, Wringhouse, Garden,
and Orchard, containing about half-an-acre, near
Lot 1, and in the occupation of Charles Hallett and
the said John H. Hann.
Lot 3. - TWO COTTAGES and Gardens adjoining Lot 2,
and in the occupation of Edward Lewsi and John
Davy.
Lot 4. - A COTTAGE and Garden situate near the New
Inn, in Stoke Abbott aforesaid, and in the occupation
of James Wakely.
Lot 1 is well adapted for the business of a Builder,
Carpenter or Wheelwright.

Lot 1 would appear to be the house now known as Old Sawyers and Lot 2 The Barn, Lot 3 Post Office Cottage and Lot 4 Mins and Gales Cottages (within items 13 and 45 & 46 on the 1839 tithe map shown at www.hannfamily.org.uk/stoke_abbott_misc2.htm then owned by John Hook Hann's grandfather William and great-uncle George Hann). At the time of the Tithe Map, 13 was occupied by William, those at 45 by amongst others George's son David and William's son William (John Hook's father) and 46 amongst others by George himself
