In the Name of God Amen I William Hand of Piddletown in the County of Dorset do make this my last Will and Testament First I desire that all my just debts and funeral & testamentary expenses maybe paod Next I give to my dear wife Betty Hand for her use during her life the house in which I dwell together with the garden thereto belonging which I hold fo a term of years not yet expired together wiith the use of all the furniture therein & thereto belonging & also the use of the linen & other conveniences herein or appertaining to the said house & after herdeath I give the said house & garden & all my interest & term of years therein and furniture linen & other conveniences to my grand daughter Maria Hand I give to my son in lawJoseph Burden & Mary his wife All the monies of which I shall die possessed whether in the public funds or otherwise together with the stocks funds and ecurities in or upon which the same respectively stand In trust to permit & suffer my said wife to receive & take the interest dividends & annual produce of the said monies for & during the term of her natural life & after her death In trust to sell the said stocks funds & securities & with the produce thereof to pay & apply the several sums hereonafter mentioned within six months after the death of my said wife is to say to my said grand daughter Maria Hand the sum of one hundred pounds to my son William Hand the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds to my daughter Mary the wife of the said Joseph Burden the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds And I hereby devise & my will is that the said Joseph Burden shall apply fifty pounds as soon after the death of my said wife as it can be effected in the purchase of two more live in the lease of the house now in the possession of my son Thomas Hand for his benefit And my will is that the said Joseph Burden & Mary his wife should from time to time as circumstances may require lay out & expend fifty pounds for my daughter Sarah the wife of William Billet in the purchase of such articles of clothing as may be necessary & conveneint for her use In addition to the bequests above mentioned I hereby desire & my will is that the said Joseph Burden shall within six months after the death of my said wife Betty Hand deposit in the Savings Bank at Dorchester the sum of thirty pounds to be placed there in his name as Trustee for the following purposes that is to say my will is that five pounds of the said thrity pounds together with the interest thereto belongin shall be paid ti each of the three younger daughters of my late son George Hand as they respectively attain the age of twenty one years these three children at present reside with their mother at Lower Melbury in this County & also my will is that five pounds of the said thirty pounds together with the interest thereto belonging shall be paid to each of the three children of my late son James being one son & two daughters now living with their mother in the Town of Dorchester in this County in the same manner that is to say as each of the said children shall attain the age of twenty one years And if any of these said children six in number should die before they attain the age of twenty one years his or her share to be divided among the survivors And I give & bequeath to my said son in law Joseph Burden All the rest residue and remainder of my property whatsoever & wheresoever And I do hereby appoint him my sole Executor In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this nineteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty eight The mark of William Hand signed sealed & piblished as the last Will & Testament of William Hand in the presence of us the words 'together with the garden thereto belonging'in the 8th line of the first side hereof the words '& garden' in the 13th line of the first side the words 'of the said thirty pounds' in the 29th line of the2nd side hereof the words 'of the said thrity pounds' in the first line the word 'mother'in the 4th line of the 3rd page hereof being first added and the 12th 13th 14th 15th 16th 17th 18th 19th & 20th line of the 2nd side & the word 'father my son James' in the 4th line of the thirs side being firsrt erased - John Murray 59 Chancery Lane London - Thos Warren Vicar of Tolpudle - William Cole servant to Mr Warren
