Edmund Gouldsmith was a 'Cornish' artist who studied and exhibited at the Royal Academy and was a member of the Roya Society of British Artists and the Royal West of England Academy . He also spent time in Adelaide, Australia and Christchurch, New Zealand in the 1880s

One of his paintings 'Poole Harbour' was in 1977 donated to Poole Museum Service by the Poole Maritime Trust and in 1989 loaned to Poole Civic Centre
