TRIBUTES BY COLYTON AND SEATON

Large Attendance at Funeral

The funeral took place at Seaton churchyard on Saturday afternoon of Mr John Wilfred Hann, whose death occurred at his residence 'Wyclaire' Hillside, Colyton, on Wednesday morning.
Deceased, who was only 32 years of age, had undergone a series of illnesses. He had been an invalid for the past two years. He was the second son of Mr and Mrs Fred Hann, a well-known Colyton family,. His quiet disposition and readiness to give assistance to any good cause earned him widespread popularityand the esteem of the district. He was a keen and clever motor cyclist and reliability trial rider, a member of the Axe Vale and Honiton Motor Cycle Clubs, while he had competed in many West of England Club trials.
He was a member of the 'De la Pole' Lodge (No.1181) of Freemasons (Seaton). Particularly fond of music, deceased took an active interest in the Colyton Amateur Operatic Society. In September, 1932, he married Miss Phyllis Swayne, a well-known local vocalist and member of the former Axe Vale Quartet. An electrician by profession, deceased was a partner in the firm Messrs F Hann and Sons.
The funeral service was conducted by the Vicar (Rev RS Robison), assisted by the Rev HS Wyatt (Vicar of Colyton)
The hymn sung was 'Christ will gather in His own' and the Nunc Dimittis was said. Mr WC Walton presided at the organ.

The grave was moss-lined, picked out with yellow chrysanthemums.
After the last rites had been performed the Masonic Brethren gathered round and sang their closing ode 'Now the evening shadows closing' and dropped sprigs of accacia(sic) into the grave.
There were a large number of beautiful wreaths, and included those from motor-cycling friends; Axe Vale Tennis Club, Seaton; Colyton Amateur Operatic Society; 'De La Pole' Lodge, Seaton; his old school at Ilminster; neighbours and friends at Hillside, Colyton and honiton Motor Club.
