POPULAR SEATON
WEDDING

Mr J W Hann and Miss
P St C Swayne

OPERA MUSIC

Much interest was evinced in the wedding
at St Gregory parish church, Seaton, of
Miss Phyllis St Clair Swayne, of Harepath,
the youngest daughter of the late Mr and
Mrs St Clair Swayne, to Mr John Wilfred
Hann, of Coly House, Colyton, the second
son of Mr and Mrs Fred Hann.
An enjoyable feature was the playing of
selections from the opera of Gilbert and
Sullivan by the organist Mr TG Clapp
Possessing a beautiful soprano voice, the
bride is well-known in East Devon as an
artiste, especially in connection with the
Axe Vale Concert Party and the Seaton
Quartette. The bridegroom is a popular
motor cycling member of the Axe Vale
Light Car Club.
The service was conducted by the vicar
(the Rev RS Robinson), assisted by the
Rev AS Hutchinson, of Shute, who gave
the address.
The bride, who was given away by her
uncle, Mr Arthur Godbeer, was attired in
white broche, with a small white cape,
trimmed with fox fur. Her veil was held
in placeover her dark hair by a wreath of
orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf
of dark red and white roses.
The bridesmaids were the Misses Marjorie
Godbeer and Mureil Snell (cousins) and
Winifred Davis. They were dressed in
picturesque blue-frilled georgette, with
dark blue coatees and satin shoes to
match, their head-dresses being wreaths
of gold and bronze chrysanthemums, and
they carried Victorian posies of chrysanth-
emums.
Mr Ewart Cumming was best man. A
reception was afterwards held at Hare-
path. The bride's gift to the bridegroom
was a signet ring, while the bridegroom's
gift to the bride was a pink and gold
enamelled dressing table set, and to the
bridesmaids light blue crystal necklaces.
Mr and Mrs Hann left later for Liverpool,
where they embarked for a trip to the
Mediterranean. The bride travelled in a
red marocain dress trimmed with silver
brocade , a black fur coat, with black hat
and suede shoes to match.
Among the many presents was a Dresden
china coffee set from Mr and Mrs B Tre-
vett and Mr G Trevett, with whom the
bride has been in business for some years.
