Colcombe Mill, Colyton. Home of William Frederick Hann from at least 1925 to 1980. As well as being a corn mill, it was also the source of power for the Colyton Electric Light & Power Company founded by William and his brother John Wilfred. It was previously owned by their father Frederick whose own father John George had married Ann Power from a local farming family. Her brother Amos had married Ellen Higgins whose father Robert White Higgins had been the miller here for the first half of the 19th century during which time it had been referred to as Colcombe Mill, Colcombe Abbey Mill and Colcombe Castle Mill. In the 1870's it had been operated by Lisle Loveridge and after his death by his widow Fanny who re-married in 1882 to Riobert Pitcher who continued to operate it until at least 1911. Next door at Colcombe Farm lived another Loveridge family (probably related) from at least 1841-1911. From this family came Henry James Loveridge who married Amos's daughter Minnie. Colcombe Mills would therefore appear to have passed through three families the Higgins's, the Loveridge's and the Hann's all of whom were related through various generations of the Power family. Both Colcombe Mills and Colcombe Farm were brought under Hann ownership in the 1920's
