As Mr Emanuel Barrett, a carter, in the
employ of Mr F Hann, timber merchant,
of Colyton, was engaged in loading timber
at Long Chimney, five miles from Colyton,
one of the baulks slipped, crushing the
thumb of his right hand against the
stanchion of the carriage. Mr E Snell, of
Tonehayne, drove Barrett at once to Dr
Creighton, when it was found the face
of the thumb was torn off, and the bone
injured. It is feared the thumb will have
to be amputated.
